Suffolk Biodiversity Information Service - Press Release

On the 1st April 2016 SBRC changed its name to Suffolk Biodiversity Information Service (SBIS). This marks the incorporation of Biodiversity advice into the range of services we offer. The new name also emphasises service provision rather than the ‘dusty cupboard’ impression given by ‘Centre’. SBIS will continue to collect, collate and manage information on the natural environment and to share that information with people in Suffolk who need it for decision making, conservation and education.

Our database has over 3 million records of species sightings in Suffolk, providing a strong evidence base for the study and protection of our natural environment. Our website continues to expand and improve the experience for online users; it now adapts for better display on devices like tablets and mobile phones. The facilities for capturing and verifying records online are being used by more people and we are working hard to ensure this new flow of information is fed into planning systems speedily without compromising data quality.

We have also moved the domain of our website to reflect this change of name and all web traffic to our old domain is being forwarded to for a limited time. To reflect our name change we have also updated our logo which can be found with this article.
